The world's second service center for autonomous submarines Gavia was officially launched in Gdynia. It was created by Enamor. The employees of the centre will operate vehicles belonging to the Polish Navy. They besides number on abroad contractors. So far, Gavie has been serviced mainly in Iceland.

Gavia is simply a tiny submarine The Icelandic company Teledyne. It is just over 2 metres long and 20 centimeters in diameter. It primarily serves to search for mines and acts on principles akin to to towed sonar. An operator shall enter a circumstantial way into the computer in the device and leave the vehicle in the water from the shipboard or tiny boat. Gavia collects data for a fewer hours. At the same time, it can climb to a depth of 1,000 meters and decision just a fewer meters above the bottom, effectively avoiding obstacles. Thanks to the sonars installed on the sides, it sweeps the belt 120 metres wide. In turn the BlueView MB2250 module allows you to scan the bottom straight under the vehicle. Gavia records the image in very advanced resolution. Upon completion of the mission, the operator shall capture the material and analyse it in detail. It searches for alleged minelike objects, which then should be verified by divers or another types of submarines. However, the probability that the operator performed the correct typing is very high.

– Gavia is very effectiveAnd it's versatile. It can be utilized not only in MCM operations (searching and combating mines) but besides for monitoring underwater infrastructure or hydrographic work. Modular plan allows to change the configuration of the device comparatively rapidly – emphasizes cadmium. Peter Sikora, commander of the 8th Coast Defence Fleet in Świnoujście. The unit he commands is equipped with 4 specified vehicles. They are utilized by crews of Kormoran mine destroyers and miners divers of the 12th and 13th Tray Squadron. Soon, however, the number of Gavia in the unit will increase significantly. The fleet would like to have a twelve of these types of vehicles.

RECLAMA

To date, the repair and service of the equipment has been part of the Gdynia company Enamor – Teledyne's partner. A crucial part of this work had to be done straight at the manufacturer. Now it's gonna change. And all thanks to the second Gavia service center in the world, which was established in Gdynia. It is located at the Academic Center for Underwater Technology of the Naval Academy. “We have excellent method facilities there, even a swimming pool with lower bottom or cranes to carry vehicles,” explains Łukasz Przystalski from Enamor, manager of the service centre. He besides adds that although the facility was officially launched on Wednesday, in fact its past is longer. We've been dealing with Gaviami for 10 years. We've had quite a few experience. Last year we went to Iceland, where we had comprehensive training. They became a pass to make an authorized service that actually started a fewer months ago. Teledyne felt that specified a facility was needed after she launched a 100 vehicles on the market, says Przystalski.

The service centre deals primarily with Gavis belonging to the Polish Navy. But Enamor besides expects abroad contractors. Icelandic vehicles include the Netherlands, Denmark, France and Portugal. – Service of equipment in Iceland requires the completion of many formalities related to transport. The country is not a associate of the European Union. It is much easier to send Gavia to a service located in another associate State – admits Przystalski.

The authoritative beginning of the service center coincided with the exit of Gavia users. The two-day gathering in Gdynia was attended by representatives of maritime forces and manufacture from respective countries. akin meetings are held all six months. To date, however, Iceland has hosted them. We had an chance to exchange experiences, get to know each another better. This is highly crucial to us. We powerfully focus on the improvement of mine forces, while submarines are 1 of the 3 pillars on which they will be based. The another 2 are modern. Cormoran mine destroyers and autonomous water platforms. Subsequent ships successively enter service, and conceptual work on platforms continues – summarizes cadmium. Sikora.
