The Office for abroad Asset Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Ministry of Finance extended the licence for activities sanctioned by the Serbian Oil manufacture (NIS) until April 17 – present announced the Minister of Energy of Serbia Dubravka Djedović Handanović.

Most of the shares in the NIS belong to Russia, which put the company on the US sanctions list. On 19 January, the Hungarian MOL informed of the signing of a binding agreement with Russian companies to acquisition their shares in NIS. MOL negotiates with ADNOC from the United arabian Emirates to acquisition number shareholdings in NIS.

"The renewal of the licence by almost a period is peculiarly crucial now that oil prices are rising all day," Djedović Handanović stated. "Rafineria in Panczevie [one in Serbia – PAP] is inactive operational and supplies will be stable. Citizens do not gotta worry, there is no request to accumulate supplies, we have adequate petroleum products" - the chief of the department calmed down.

The US included NIS on the sanction list in January 2025 to prevent, as announced, the financing of the war against Ukraine from money coming from Russian oil and gas companies. The U.S. Administration demands the withdrawal of Russian entities from the NIS.
