Brazil submitted to Serbia in the last group match of the Europe Championship 0:3 (22:25, 20:25, 22:25). This means that the Serbs advanced to the 1/8 final, and Brazilians must await the result of the Czech Republic–China meeting.
Brazil, the favourite in Group H, began the tournament with 2 wins: 3:1 with China and 3:0 with the Czech Republic. The match with Serbia was to be a pure formality due to the fact that Serbian volleyball players did not delight in form. The Thursday meeting, however, took place in a alternatively unexpected way – “Canarinhos” failed to win a single set. This means that they have the same points as their rival, but Serbia can boast a better balance of sets.
