Senator Stanisław Gawłowski heard the conviction in connection with the alleged melioration scandal. It is about irregularities with 26 investments of the Management Board of Melioration and Water Devices in Szczecin. The investigation has continued since 2013.

In total, the D.A. has filed 94 charges against 32 defendants. Gawłowski heard the charge of accepting a bribe of at least PLN 733 thousand. In return, the politician was expected to aid get lucrative contracts as part of the investment of the Board of Meliration. In addition to corruption issues, politicians were besides accused of money laundering and plagiarism of doctoral work.

The Szczecin territory Court sentenced Gawłowski to 5 years in prison, 180 1000 PLN fine, and besides banned the taking of managerial positions in state institutions and companies for 10 years.

The conviction is invalid. Gawłowski himself did not plead guilty. He stresses that the substance is “political”.
