Selective collection of bio-waste – good examples for Polish municipalities (online conference)

The Polish Zero Waste Association invites you to participate in a conference on bio-waste collection and processing, which will take place on 17 July 2025. The event will be attended by experts from Poland and abroad who will share good practices in building strategies, utilizing circumstantial tools and good practices in municipalities.

Recent data show that Europe produces 60 million tonnes of kitchen waste annually, but only 15 million tonnes are collected selectively. This means that about 74% of kitchen waste is incinerated or sent to landfills, alternatively of being processed into valuable compost.

As part of the 2.5-year task #LIFEBIOBEST, part of which is pilotage conducted by the Polish Zero Waste Association, comprehensive investigation and analysis has been carried out to identify key conditions, models and strategies for the improvement of biowaste management in Europe.

The July event will bring together leading experts in the field of bio-waste management from Poland and abroad, who will present comprehensive tools developed for urban and regional authorities to improve bio-waste management systems, address local challenges and discuss the future of the sector.

This event is part of the EU-funded LIFE BIOBEST project. The workshops organised by PESZW together with a consortium of partners aim to advance concrete actions for the improvement and implementation of effective local bio-waste collection systems. Its aim is to show best practices in bio-waste management and to jointly address the challenges facing local authorities, NGOs and business.
