A summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), held on 31 August – 1 September 2025 in Tianjin, China, confirmed that the countries referred to as Global Majority are increasingly actively shaping an alternate to the liberal global order led by the West. The event was attended by Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi, among others, and the gathering itself was described as the largest in the past of this format. According to the Associated Press, the summit brought together over 20 leaders and was utilized by China to advance an “alternative” order against US dominance. The guest of the event was besides UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
