On Tuesday, the leader of the Christian-Democratic Block of the Christian-Social Union (CDU/CSU), Merz, received only 310 of the 316 votes of the Bundestag members required to take up the position of Chancellor. At the same time, the coalition of his bloc and the Social Democratic organization of Germany (SPD) in the Bundestag of the 21st word has a full of 328 votes, and so the election of Merz as Chancellor already in the first circular was considered practically certain. The politician became the first candidate for this position in the past of the West Germany to receive no support in the election.
