Bombers with drones

1st Bombers Regiment from the Bank crosses the routes in the “dronization” of engineering troops. His soldiers are the first bomb squads in Poland to practice utilizing drones. For now, the flying, but yet they are besides to be equipped with unmanned platforms – mines and mines and floating. We visited the bomb squad during their drone training.

– Unmanned on the modern battlefield are crucial, besides for engineering troops. Today, unlike a fewer decades ago, alternatively of sending a reconnaissance patrol, e.g. on a possibly mined field and exposing it to human losses, it is sent Unmanned, which recognise the area and possible threats – explains Colonel Krzysztof Jarozek, commander 1st Bomb Squad. He explains that unmanned platforms execute very many functions crucial to engineering troops – not only reconnaissance. They're mincing the area, they can besides support the evacuation of soldiers.

During training at the camp in the Nupice, the bomb squad of the Bank practiced navigating flying drones, including crossing the obstacle track, consisting of poles stuck to the ground. They besides trained the usage of drones to admit the trenches and tranches of the opponent. The aim was to precisely find the threat, e.g. a car trap or another objects of doubt. After they were detected, reconnaissance robots began to decision up to the facility to test it precisely up close.

RECLAMA

– The lightweight reconnaissance robot that we usage here can neutralize e.g. hand grenades, and latched and defensive F1 and RG42 grenades, very popular on the modern battlefield. We usage a larger patrol-portable robot to carry and neutralise heavier elements – explains St.

He adds that the robots have 3 to 5 cameras, so erstwhile they approach a suspicious object they can see it thoroughly, and allow, among others, to read subtitles on the object. – At the same time, thanks to the camera from the flying drone, we check everything around the robot. It allows us to observe the area up to 10 km, and very close-up gives us the opportunity, for example, to specify the vehicle brand, which we will announcement in the distance – explains the soldier.

Drones, for now training, have been in usage with the Brest bomb squad for respective months. The regiment is intended to make a battalion of unmanned engineering platforms equipped with unmanned, both flying and floating. The second can work, among others, in analyzing the bottom of the water. – Assuming we are building a pontoon bridge, before we go to work the submarine will admit the water barrier, it will immediately send data from the bottom of the river and detect possible threat from underwater mines – explains Colonel Jaroszek.

The usage of reconnaissance drones, equipped with thermal imaging, will revolutionize the crossing of minefields among others. The drone with optoelectronics will find even mines buried deeper into the ground.

– The profit is considerable: it is the time and safety of the soldier. By the time the drones entered service, the bomb squad was making its own reconnaissance. For this purpose, he had to crawl deep into the minefield and with the usage of the alleged bomb tentacles check the area – explains Major Wojciech Tyniec, commander of the road and bridge battalion and deputy chief of the squad for the establishment of a non-statutory engineering laboratory of unmanned platforms in the 1st Bomb Regiment.

Brest bomb squads are not just betting on the ability to operate unmanned aircraft. A drone laboratory is besides being created in the regiment. Within this framework, soldiers, experienced in the operation of civilian drones, and possessing appropriate skills in the field of computer discipline and engineering, will produce basic, simple unmanned vehicles utilizing 3D printers.
