MEN wants to appoint a National Student Rights Ombudsman. There will besides be 16 provincial spokespersons. They will all guarantee that the rights and duties of students are respected in schools. The Ministry of National Education is busy. The Ministry prepared a draft amendment of the Act - Educational Law taking into account the comments made during the consultation. The planned changes will concern, inter alia, the functions of the student rights spokesperson.

"We presume that the national spokesperson will be appointed in May, so that he will have time to settle in the ministry, organize an office, set up a work plan, prepare first trainings to establish principles of cooperation with provincial ombudsmen, prepare appropriate information for schools on how to implement the fresh regulations," he added. The Ombudsman will no longer discipline teachersIn line with the establishment of the MEN, the national spokesperson and the provincial spokespersons will lose disciplinary and judicial and administrative powers. The Ministry took seriously the comments of, among others, trade unions, where it was considered that the national spokesperson and the provincial ombudsmen had besides much competence over teachers to respect the rights of the student. "They will so be deprived of the power to initiate disciplinary proceedings against teachers, to participate in disciplinary proceedings, to send inquiries to the ultimate Court or to the Administrative Court. This from the bill was removed - assured the Casper Laboratory. What will student rights advocates do? The national Ombudsman will have oversight over the rights of pupils, will have control powers, but will no longer have disciplinary powers. In addition to his control tasks, he will have communication, promotional, advisory, interpretative tasks. It is expected to cooperate with the MEN and the Ministry's lawyers in the legislative work and the opinion of the proposed legislation. In turn, the provincial spokesperson will work in the education curatory and will have visiting privileges. And his tasks will include supervising all schools in the voivodship in respect of respecting students' rights and obligations.
