The Council of Ministers adopted a bill eliminating the Copernicus Academy and the Nicolaus Copernicus School (SGMK). Donald Tusk's government justifies this decision with advanced costs of maintaining the facilities and their low efficiency. Is this the end of controversial institutions called the “PiS” forge of staff?
Why is the government eliminating the Copernicus Academy and the SGMK?
The explanatory memorandum of the draft law indicated that cost-benefit balance related to the activities of both institutions negative.
- Copernicus Academycreated 1 September 2022.She was expected to be active in scholarship-grant policy. However, the government found that her tasks double activities of existing units specified as:
- National discipline Centre (NCN),
- National Centre for investigation and improvement (NCBR),
- National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA).
- Nicolaus Copernicus Schoolappointed 1 March 2023.by the end of 2024 she hasn't started any course of study nor did she conduct classes for students. The draft law underlines that did not execute the basic tasks of the university.
High staff salaries – government allegations
One of the main arguments for the liquidation of both institutions are maintenance costs. The government indicated that:
- Average salaries of Copernicus Academy staff exceeded PLN 17 1000 per month,
- So advanced wages did not translate into efficiency the operation of the facilities.

- College of Legal Sciences (Lublin).

What happens to employees and students?
The bill provides for the termination of employment relations with the staff of both institutions, while respecting their rights. For SGMK which She didn't have time to accept students.There will be no request to transfer them to another universities.
