Draft law extending maternity leave for premature mothers – invitation to consultations

Today, during the press conference, Karina Bosak, a associate of the Polish Parliament for the Confederacy and president of the Opokopodzierowowa Group, announced an initiative to support mothers of premature children born in Poland. Currently, more than 20,000 mothers a year face the challenge of a long-term infirmary stay with a child, which is inappropriate in the context of the planned maternity leave.

The bill, the details of which will be presented at today's gathering of the Parliamentary Group on perinatal care, implies an extension of maternity leave, starting with the parent and kid leaving the hospital. This is an crucial change in order to adapt the right to the real needs of the mothers of the premature.

Karina Bosak stressed the importance of this initiative, noting the difficulties faced by mothers of premature children. The task aims to reduce the separation period of the parent from the kid and to enable them to benefit more full from the time allocated to maternity care.

Claudia Domagała, a proxy for perinatal care, informed that representatives of various institutions, including patient rights spokesperson, National wellness Fund, Social Insurance Institution, NGOs, doctors and midwives were invited to consult the project.
