Russian ship ‘Khatanga’ from the port in Gdynia will hit scrap

The Russian tanker “Khatanga” moors in the Gdynia port from 2017, but will shortly be removed. The Ministry of Infrastructure reported that the Board of Maritime Port Gdynia has 3 months to take action. The ship is in mediocre method condition and endangers shipping safety.

Russian tanker problem for port

Since then, her condition has steadily deteriorated. Over the years, the tanker had broken off the cum respective times, which posed a real threat to shipping.

The decision to remove the wreck was made by the Ministry of Infrastructure. The manager of the Maritime Authority in Gdynia has obliged the Board of the Maritime Port of Gdynia to take action within 3 months.

The Ministry indicated that the ship should be removed as shortly as possible. The operation will require precise planning as ‘Khatanga’ is not suitable for independent shipping.
