The confederate African improvement Community, comprising 16 associate States, approved the request to organise a military mission in east Congo last May to aid the DRC, the world's largest cobalt supplier and key copper maker in Africa, address the instability and deteriorating safety situation. The final decision to send African soldiers was made in December 2023. Its cost to South Africa is $ 106 million. It is worth noting that Rwanda has a very weak relation with South Africa, which may be applicable in the context of the mission.
