MUMBAI- Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ), the flag carrier of Jordan, plans to resume its much-anticipated flights to India. This strategic move shows the airline’s focus on reconnecting with key markets. India remains one of the largest unserved markets for Jordan.
The airline also plans to grow its network by launching flights to 4 more destinations in Africa and North America.
Royal Jordanian India Flights
Royal Jordanian will start flights from Amman (AMM) to two key Indian cities – Delhi (DEL) and Mumbai (BOM) in 2025. With this, after a long gap, the airline will be back in India. This indicates the airline’s growing interest in the ever-growing demand for air travel between the two countries.
The return of flights will enhance connectivity between India and Jordan. Further, the non-stop flights will enable smoother travel between the two countries for business and leisure passengers. These flights will facilitate stronger cultural and economic ties between the two countries.
Royal Jordanian is yet to announce the flights. The bookings for these new flights to India are also not open. However, bookings by the airline may open anytime soon. The detailed schedules and operational specifics are eagerly awaited.
According to Aviation A2Z sources, the airline is planning an event in Mumbai on January 8, 2025. Royal Jordanian may announce these new flights to India on this special occasion.
A Decade of Absence
Royal Jordanian (RJ) operated flights to India, with non-stop flight connection between Amman (AMM) and Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM). However, the operations ended in 2014, marking a significant gap in connectivity between the two countries.
Royal Jordanian (RJ) coming back with their non-stop flight service to India after more than a decade-long absence in 2025, and the gap will once again be filled.
India’s outbound tourism economy is maturing rapidly. And with enhanced bilateral relations between the two countries, the airline is hoping to operate flights to India profitably.
The airline can benefit from the increasing demand for travel and strong connections between the two economies. This development will further ease trade and travel, and bring back routes that were wiped away for many years.
Demand for Amman from key Indian cities
The demand for direct connectivity between Amman and key Indian cities has been growing steadily. The demand is evident by passenger traffic data from 2023:
- The Delhi-Amman route recorded approximately 35,000 passengers,
- while the Mumbai-Amman route saw around 28,000 passengers.
These figures might not exactly reflect the true travel demand between the countries. Because, the data is recorded only for those travelers who flew using a single PNR (Passenger Name Record) and connected through other airports like Dubai (DXB), Abu Dhabi (AUH), Doha (DOH), etc.
Further, it is important to note that these numbers do not include passengers who chose to self-transfer to reach Amman. This means that the actual travel demand between India and Jordan may be even higher.
The data also reflects that travelers are currently flying inconvenient itineraries or have to bear long layovers to reach Amman. This includes business travelers, tourists, and the Indian diaspora population living in Amman.
A huge demand with the lack of nonstop flights gives Royal Jordanian an opportunity to fill the present gap in connectivity between India and Jordan, thus making travel easier and bilateral relations stronger.
