A biker hit a 4-year-old kid in Sopot after alcohol. Mandates 9 1000 PLN

A 37-year-old Georgian citizen hit a boy on Saturday 5 September at around 11.30 p.m. in Sopot Spa Square. He had about a half-promille of alcohol, drove in the region with a ban on cycling and got tickets for PLN 9,000. The kid suffered insignificant facial injuries, but did not require hospitalization.

A hit-and-run at Spa Square

The event occurred in 1 of Sopot's most frequented places. The boy was walking with his parent erstwhile a cyclist arrived. After the hit-and-run, the baby fell over. Police and medical rescue squad were sent to the site.

As shown by Communication from the Police Headquarters, facial injuries were mild and the four-year-old did not require hospitalization. This is the most crucial information for the household and everyone affected by this event. The child's data has not been disclosed and there is no reason to print it.

Alcohol, traffic ban and 9 1000 PLN of parking tickets

Officers have determined that a 37-year-old was driving at advanced velocity in the area under ban on bicycle traffic. The survey showed about a half-promile of alcohol in his body. The police punished him with parking tickets for cycling after utilizing alcohol, ignoring the marking and causing a safety hazard in traffic. The full amount amounted to PLN 9,000.

The nationality of the man, Georgian citizenship, was reported by the police. It does not change the measurement of responsibility: everyone who uses the Polish public space is obliged to respect Polish law and defend weaker participants of the movement. The blame is attributed to a circumstantial perpetrator, not to the full group.

Mephedron found during control

In the course of further action, the police found a substance on the man that proved to be mephedrone after examination. The biker was detained, transported to the Sopot Municipal Police Command and heard allegations of possession of an illegal substance. In this part of the case, there is simply a presumption of innocence until a final decision is taken.

The incidental reminds us that the bike is simply a vehicle and its user remains a associate in the movement. The footbridge and walking area are not a fast track. Especially where families with children live, human safety must prevail. Debate on pedestrian protection should be based on enforcement of reasonable rules, not on a war between drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

The advanced mandate is simply a clear reaction of the State, but its importance does not end with an amount. The ban on traffic in a crowded place serves to defend people, including children who can behave in a hard way to predict. The disregard for marking, fast driving and alcohol created a dangerous situation together.

For residents and tourists, the proposal is simple: the common space remains safe only erstwhile regulations are enforced and vehicle users realize the burden of their own responsibility. This time the kid avoided major injuries. Next time, the effects of akin recklessness can be much more severe.
