President Andrzej Duda in an interview with the Washington Post stressed that NATO and Donald Trump are key elements in the fight against Russian imperialism. Duda stated that “only with a very strong alliance specified as NATO and Donald Trump, as president of the United States, can a free planet be protected from Russian imperialism”. In addition, president Duda noted that "more Europe needs in the US and more USA needs in Europe".
On the issue of Ukraine, Duda stressed that "if anyone claims that Russia is incapable to defeat Ukraine, I would like to correct this claim – it is able." The president added that "Ukraine should receive support due to the fact that it is essential to guarantee its security". According to Duda, "further American support for Kiev lies in Washington's vital interest".
Duda besides pointed out that the US under Trump should proceed to aid Ukraine. The president stated that "natural resources in Ukraine would be badly needed by the United States and it would be worth having control of these resources".
With respect to future relations between Europe and the US, Duda explained that the slogan "Make Europe a large Again" understood as strengthening transatlantic economical cooperation. The president added that "more Europe in the United States and more of the United States in Europe" is essential to guarantee safety and stableness in the region.
Duda besides expressed the opinion that Trump's character was causing so many controversy, mainly in Europe, due to a completely different approach to politics and language utilized by the president of the United States, and not by politicians in Europe, especially in the EU. The president added that "there is simply a circumstantial tension (in bilateral relations – PAP), peculiarly visible here in Europe".
In this context, Duda recalled Trump's conversation with erstwhile German Chancellor Angela Merkel, from the first word of president of the United States. It was about the unequal treatment of the American automotive manufacture by the EU. According to the study of the Polish leader, Trump was to propose to the head of the German government to interrupt the telephone conversation, leave the buildings and walk the streets for half an hour, counting cars: Merkel – American brands, and Trump – European, especially German.
The Polish leader added that the characteristic of Trump's personality, which made the most impression on him, is his enthusiasm and vitality. “Whenever I met him,... I was struck by his energy, his vitality, which I believe may enviate many even much younger ones. It feels like being in his presence. This man is glimmering with energy," Duda stressed.
According to NATO data, in 2020 Russia spent about $65 billion on military, which accounted for about 3.4% of global military spending. The U.S. spent about $721 billion, which accounted for about 38% of global military spending.
As regards Europe's security, Duda stressed that "NATO is the most crucial military alliance in Europe" and that "US are Europe's key safety partner". The president added that "the safety of Europe is closely linked to the safety of the US".
According to Eurostat, in 2020, the EU spent any EUR 200 billion on military spending, representing about 1.3% of global military spending. The U.S. spent about $721 billion, which accounted for about 38% of global military spending.
