It is not known whether the armor we see on BMP-3 is Karakas-2 in the configuration of years ago, or whether it is simply a solution developed on the basis of it [in 2022](https://defence24.pl/industry/disclosed-parameter-new-armour-for-Russian-bmp-3) by Kalashnikov. The set is designed for the front and side of the hull and tower, and its weight is 4200 kg. It is intended to cover 62% of the hull's sides (so the place most exposed to fire), 36% of the hull front surface and 70% of the tower. According to the manufacturer, it is intended to supply protection against single accumulation heads, so it will increase the opposition of the base vehicle to the ppk of the older kind and infantry grenade launchers. In addition, it is intended to supply protection against anti-tank and anti-tank-fired kal ammunition. 14.5 and 23 mm and full caliber ammunition for 30 mm cannons, but it is most likely the 1 utilized in 2A42/72 cannons.
