The parliamentary elections in Hungary will take place on 12 April. However, whether Viktor Orbán will be Prime Minister again (and let us remind you that he has been in power for 16 years) is not foregone. Shortly before the elections, there are more polls that are unfavourable to Fidesz. So the Russians came up with a fresh strategy that, as reported by The Washington Post, would include a "attack".
The Russians wanted to aid Orbán before the elections in Hungary... "attack"?
As described in the Saturday edition of the U.S. Journal, "in the run-up to the key elections in Hungary, a Russian abroad intelligence unit began to strike an alarm over falling support for Prime Minister Orbán, whose friendly relations with Moscow have long provided the Kremlin with a strategical foothold in NATO and the European Union".
"Washington Post" reported that Russian abroad Intelligence Service (SWR) officers were to propose a way to "fundamentally change the full election run paradigm". Their secret plan was according to the diary "organizing the assassination of Viktor Orbán".
"WP" journalists reached the study of agents who went to the European intelligence services. It states that the incidental would change the perception of the campaign. As the diary reported, it was stated that "rational socio-economic issues" would fall to the background, and the main violin would play emotions. Therefore, issues relating to State security, stableness and the defence of the political strategy would be key themes.
The average reserves that there is no information about the assassination attempts. However, if a akin incidental occurred, any voters could follow the urns of compassion for Orbán. This in turn could outweigh the balance in his favor. Let us add that it is not known at what level we discussed this idea. On the another hand, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Pieskov referred to media revelations and stated that "this is another example of misinformation".
In Hungary nervously. But reports of a Russian conspiracy deny
But the government of Orbán has a good relation with Russia, and it is impossible to hide that the falling results of the Fidesz organization bring a tense atmosphere. April elections in Hungary are besides of large importance to the Kremlin. Meanwhile, more support in most polls has opposition TISZA Peter Magyar. erstwhile Deputy Head of Hungarian abroad Intelligence Andras Telkes says for the "Washington Post": – Russians will do anything to keep Orban in power. They consider Hungary part of their sphere of influence....
Telkes recalled that in July 2024 there was an effort to assassinate Donald Trump, then Republican organization candidate for president. Later polls showed that politicians then gained greater support.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Hungarian government Zoltan Kovacs denies the reports of the journal. He referred to them on X.
"Come on, Washington Post. Are you saying the Russian advisors suggested a conspiracy to organize the assassination? It's not just a lie, it's pathetic nonsense. Pure, calculating intrigue. Brussels and Kiev openly push full political interference, and we should take it seriously?", commented the politician.
