Russia wants to extradite the SS-Galizien veteran

Russia's defence minister Sergei Szojgu took steps to extradite the honored SS associate Galizien Jarosław Hunki. The man was feigned in the Canadian parliament during the visit of the president of Ukraine.

IPN launched an investigation into Jarosław Hunka, a soldier of the 14th Waffen SS Grenadier Division. The Institute's prosecutors analyse the papers held by the Ukrainians who lived in Canada. Ukrainians from the SS Galizien participated in February 1944 in a crime in the Pieniacka Huta, where they murdered the civilian population. Soldiers of the formation in which Hunk served are besides suspected of committing crimes in Iwonicz, Chodaczków Wielki, Prehoryl and Smoligów. The IPN spokesperson Dr. Rafał Leśkiewicz stated that the intent of analysing respective twelve volumes of files is to check whether the name of Hunki appears in them. He stressed that these actions were taken immediately after obtaining information about Jarosław Hunce and welcoming him with ovations by the Parliament of Canada and the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenski.

Crime in Pieniacka Huta

The direct origin of the pacification of this village was the killing of 2 soldiers of the 4th regiment by Poles. They were buried as the first 2 killed SS soldiers “Galizien”, even though the regiment did not formally belong to this division.
