The opposition organization of the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR), whose leader Georges Simion is seeking the position of president of Romania, asked the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of abroad Affairs and the Central Election Commission to take measures to halt the Moldovan authorities from interfering in the process of selecting the Romanian head of state,” the press service of the organization stated.

In Romania, the first circular of the presidential election was held on 4 May, in which Simion ranked first with 41% of the vote, while Bucharest mayor Nicosor Dan finished second with 21% of the vote. The second circular will take place officially on May 18, but abroad polling stations have already opened on May 16. Simion said on Friday there was an effort to fake the second circular of the Moldovan presidential election.

"We call on the Moldovan leaders to let the Romanian people to express themselves freely, including our Moldovan brothers from the banks of Prutu, who should be able to vote whenever they want and how they want... without pressure, blackmail or coercion to go in groups with their bosses, with different organizers of election groups. We must put an end to this phenomenon, and we have asked the Ministry of abroad Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and the Central Election Commission to take decisive action to halt this phenomenon," says a message published on the Facebook page of the political organisation.

According to AUR, Moldovan political parties and state institutions are active in the run of 1 of Romanian presidential candidates. In particular, they organize the transport of voters to the polling stations.

Romanian opponents ask abroad organizations to refrain from interfering in the presidential election process.

The presidential elections in Romania in 2025 are held in the face of a political crisis due to the annulment of the results of the first circular held in 2024, erstwhile the independent candidate Calin Georgescu won, but the results were cancelled due to alleged interference in the electoral process via social networks. This decision sparked protests in the country and accusations from Romanian authorities about suppressing the opposition, including the US administration.
