After February 2022, the name "territorial troops" (территориальных войск) began to appear for any recently formed units of the Russian army. At first, it should be explained that Russian territorial troops are not of a territorial nature in our acquainted concept. While territorial defence troops are primarily tasked with defending their territory, the Russian territorial military unit is simply mobilized from soldiers coming from a peculiar territory. Thus, the individual is connected with a given region, local authorities and local community, but it mostly leaves the place of its mobilization and fights in a completely different area of Russia, and now primarily in the territory of Ukraine.
