"Slovakia has bigger problems than Ukraine"

Robert Fico is simply a well-known figure in Slovak politics, as he has already been Prime Minister of the country twice. He first headed the government from 2006 to 2010, and then from 2012 to 2018. The point is that his views on abroad policy may be of concern to those who want to win Ukraine in the war against Russia...

According to X, Łukasz Bok, Robert Fico categorically commented on Ukraine's assistance after the election was announced:

"Slovakia and its inhabitants have bigger problems than Ukraine. Ukraine is simply a large tragedy for everyone. We will do everything in our power to bring peace negotiations as shortly as possible," said Slovak politicians.

This communicative does not coincide with that which has been pushed in many capitals of Europe or overseas, as many commentators believe that the Russian armed forces should be reduced to a maximum, only then could the possible of any negotiations make sense. Sitting at the negotiating table right now could be a disaster. Robert Fico, therefore, is not horrified in the first place by the scale of Russian imperialism, he is curious in peace at all costs, even if he could be in the interests of Russia, which would, after any time, most likely carry out a second armed assault in Ukraine.

A future ally of Russia?

Bloomberg's agency reported that the Kremlin may shortly have another ally in Europe. This is the consequence of the triumph of the Robert Fico party, which, for example, opposes Ukraine's accession to NATO.

Fico has not been in his rhetoric about Ukraine and war at all. At 1 time, he declared that if he came to power, it would mean ending military aid to Kiev. In fact, his communicative has a strong American accent and a large suspicion of another native politicians. He believes that the president of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputova, is an "American agent". The fact that Fico is against Ukraine is 1 thing, due to the fact that he besides has the opinion of a pragmatic, sentimental politician who professes the doctrine of balancing between East and West, pro and anti-Russianism.

Against sanctions and Nord Stream 2

Dr. Krzysztof Dębiek, the main specialist of the Central European squad of OSW, points out that although Fico opposed the imposition of sanctions on the Kremlin, he was not a supporter of Nord Stream 2. In this energy project, he saw a threat to his country:

"He never made any radical, controversial decisions that could point to him as a pro-Russian policy. It is actual that he has regularly criticized and criticised sanctions against Russia, since 2014 erstwhile these further sanctions packages were imposed. But besides Slovakia's Ficy accepted them with him as Prime Minister. Like Poland, Slovakia Ficy opposed the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, not due to the fact that it had reservations about Russian gas, but due to the fact that the gas pipeline through the Baltic Sea reduced the transit importance of the country," said the expert.

Significant Orban reaction

It is no coincidence that Viktor Orban accepted Robert Fico's enthusiastic triumph in the Slovak elections. It is his political ally.

“ Guess who's back! We congratulate Robert Fico on his undisputed triumph in the Slovak parliamentary elections. It's always good to work with a patriot. We look forward to it!” wrote Orban on X (formerly Twitter).

Orban is very curious in the political situation in Slovakia not only due to the converging views with Fico on aid to Ukraine, but besides due to the fact that there is simply a large Hungarian number there, it has 422,000 people, 7.75 percent of the Slovak population. Both politicians besides have a relation with migration, the LGBT environment or the EU's environmental agenda.

Fico spoke of the Nazis from Kiev

According to “Rzeczpospolita”, “During the election campaign, Fico repeated Kremlin propaganda theories, including that in Kiev there are “Nazis”. He besides referred to conventional sympathy for Russia among Slovaks":

- For God's sake, it was the russian Union that liberated us during planet War II. The Russians deserve respect,” Fico argued.

Interestingly, so far Slovakia has been 1 of Ukraine's most devoted allies. It is said that she handed over quite a few weapons to Kiev for her modest capabilities. Fico, meanwhile, has already announced that the Ukrainians "will not receive a single bullet" erstwhile he rules the country as Prime Minister.

Jędrzej Bielecki from “Rzeczpospolita” describes Robert Fico's many problems, but he came out with a defensive hand:

"Five years ago, under the force of manifestations that broke out after the assassination of investigative writer Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kusnirova, he had to step down in disgrace from the position of Prime Minister. Accused of quite a few corruption, he was struggling to defend parliamentary immunity this year, which allowed him at least for the time being to avoid accountability before the judiciary."

Fico must find the coalition.

Although the Direction organization won the election and raised 23 percent of the vote, this consequence evidently does not warrant its own governments. So Robert Fico will gotta negociate with possible coalitions. Among them is the home Party, which won 27 seats. Its leader is Peter Pellegrini, who worked with Robert Fico years ago. Tomasz Maćkowiak besides writes about the fact that the Voice may be a tongue this time in importance in “Politics”:

“A fresh coalition, whoever creates it, will surely be fragile, Slovakia is so besides waiting for the continuation of chaos. At the moment, commentators clearly indicate that the keys to the future have a group with an enigmatic name Hlas (Vote) that took 3rd place. This is simply a group of erstwhile Ficy men who escaped from his organization 5 years ago, erstwhile after the assassination of Jan Kuciak it seemed that this was the final end. Their leader Peter Pellegrini became even briefly Prime Minister. His message shows that he alternatively leans towards a coalition with Robert Fico, but does not declare himself unequivocally to bid the strongest position possible – that is, as many seats in the future government."

Another option could be a coalition with the far right organization of the Republic. The thing is, this group didn't get into parliament. Another option is to share governments with nationalists who belong to the Slovak National Party. For many commentators who do not know the specifics of Slovak politics, it may be astonishing that these nationalists are part of a neo-Nazi group. And now they've got 10 tickets.

According to gosc.pl portal, "the leader of SNS Andrei Danko does not hide sympathy for Russia and if he is invited to a possible coalition with Smer and Hlas he will have no problems supporting Fica's postulate to end military aid to Ukraine". This may concern many people in Europe.
