A revolution in French politics. Prime Minister Francois Bayrou's government lost a vote of assurance vote on Monday evening in parliament, which means he must step down. The firm reported that on Tuesday, "Bayrou will resign to president Emmanuel Macron".

The results of the vote were as follows: 364 MEPs were against giving the government a vote of confidence, for – 194 Members, and 15 abstained.

The government fell in France

Bayrou expected this and, even before the vote itself, thanked the ministers of his cabinet for these 9 months of cooperation. At the same time, he admitted that there were no "crisiss or tensions" between them.

The Elysée Palace immediately responded to this situation: "he accepted the fall of the Bayrou government as a consequence of the parliament vote and "the slowness of the fresh Prime Minister in the coming days".

Let us remind you that Bayrou is simply a political ally of Emmanuel Macron and the head of the center organization MoDem. He was appointed Prime Minister in December 2024. In July this year, he presented a draft budget for 2026, providing for savings of EUR 44 billion – and it was this issue that became the bone of disagreement, and the opposition considered it "unfair and burdensome for the disadvantaged citizens."

Despite this, the Prime Minister demanded a vote of confidence. He knew that prior to negotiations on circumstantial solutions to the budget, consent on the state of public finances was needed.

Still on Monday during his last speech, he explained that "deputies can force the government to leave, but they cannot 'expel' facts". – The reality will stay inexorable – spending will proceed to rise, and the burden of debt, already unbearable, will be expanding and increasingly expensive," he said.

Let us add that Bayrou has been the 5th chief of government since the beginning of Macron's second presidential term. So it is not impossible to miss the troublesome situation of establishing a unchangeable government. The problem deepened erstwhile the early elections announced by the president in 2024 did not bring any organization a decisive majority.
