On Monday, Reuters, citing the Russian Interfax agency, reported that according to the Russian national safety Service, the Polish intelligence was to participate in the preparation of the assassination of the Russian GRU vice-president, General Vladimir Alexieev, allegedly commissioned by Ukrainian services. According to FSB, the Polish side was to participate, among others, in the process of recruiting the bomber. On the same day, the Russian abroad Intelligence Service sent a message in which it accuses Western states, including Poland, of actions aimed at weakening the government of Alaksandra Lukashenko and bringing about political change in Belarus.
Typical east narration
The Chief of Military Counterintelligence Service, Brig. Gen. Jarosław Stróżyk, pointed out that the Russian services' communications were part of a typical disinformation operation to strengthen the communicative about the constant force from the West and NATO on Russia and Belarus.
In the usage of this communicative by the Russian authorities, I see nothing strange. It is, however, interesting if this rhetoric is pierced by official, well-known and respected press agencies specified as Reuters; it is besides at least disturbing – assessed General Guardian.
The general emphasized that all activities of Polish services are carried out under the law and in accordance with political guidelines received from the Prime Minister, the Minister of National Defence and the Minister-Coordinator of peculiar Services, and subsequently approved by the College for peculiar Services at the Council of Ministers, with the participation of the President.
Resist propaganda
When asked about Russian propaganda in Poland and Europe, General Guardian admitted that there is no 1 effective way to deal with this threat. He recalled the January study of the committee on the examination of Russian and Belarusian influences in Poland, which indicated, among others, the narratives demonizing NATO and the EU and the deficiency of systemic countering misinformation in the country. The study recommends, among another things, strengthening cooperation between the state and the media in the fight against propaganda.
The general added that a better strategy than ignoring Russian propaganda is its active crash. He besides pointed out that in the fight against misinformation peculiar services should play a greater role, including through greater presence in public space and the publication of regular reports revealing Russian methods of action.
