Republicans from the U.S. home of Representatives' Committee of abroad Affairs addressed the European Commission, demanding clarification of reports of illegal political advertisements appearing in Poland. In a letter addressed to the president of Ursula von der Leyen, they besides referred, among others, to the suspension of the PiS subsidy.

Information on this subject was published by Virtual Poland. The letter, which was signed by committee president Brian Mast, Chris Smith co-chairing the Polish-American Parliamentary Group and Keith Self, head of the Subcommittee on Europe and 5 another members, highlighted that the situation may violate the principles of fairness of the democratic process in Poland.

American politicians have accused the EU of applying double standards to Poland. They pointed out the deficiency of consequence of the EC to information on advertising promoting Rafał Trzaskowski, a candidate for the Civic Coalition.

In their opinion, these actions, despite the EC's earlier intervention against the PiS governments, remained unanswered, even though they were under the supervision of the EU institutions.

"Reports of foreign-funded political commercials favoring Rafał Trzaskowski, candidate of the Civic Coalition (KO) supported by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, which may have occurred in violation of Polish law, combined with reports of the government's refusal of Tusk to comply with court orders ordering the transfer of public funds to the opposition organization Law and Justice (PiS), propose deliberate action to change the terms of the election game," Republicans wrote.

Intervention of Polish elections. Republicans want an explanation

Brian Mast in the letter referred to the text of Simon Jadczak and Patrick Nightingale, published by the WP. According to the findings of journalists, behind advertising on social media, encouraging the vote on Trzaskowski, and discouraging the support of Nawrocki and Mentzen, was to become an Austrian company headed by people associated with the American Democratic Party.

The Republicans besides stressed that stopping budget subsidies for Law and Justice is another alarming signal of criticism of the current power in Poland. In their letter, they asked the president of the European Commission to organise a briefing and to answer 5 detailed questions on the Commission's inactivity to this situation.

Let us remind that journalists besides announced that behind online advertisements promoting Rafał Trzaskowski and attacking Karol Nawrocki and Sławomir Mentzen there are people associated with the Foundation Action Democracy. You can read more about this here.
