Swiatlana Cichanouska announced a visit to the United States in 2 weeks. According to her, meetings with representatives of the administration and congressmen are planned to convey the view that free Belarus is besides in the interests of the United States.
The leader of the Belarusian democratic forces was asked about the influence of Donald Trump's coming to power and all subsequent actions.
“First of all, I do not think that the Trump administration has reached any position on Belarus at the moment. Clearly, this is not a precedence right now. However, we see that the State Department is trying to release political prisoners, which we welcome. president Biden and I have started a strategical dialog with the United States, which we believe will not end or change. And, of course, we are trying to keep Belarus on the agenda in the United States," said the politician. According to her, meetings with representatives of the administration and congressmen are planned to convey the view that free Belarus is besides in the interests of the United States.
“In 2 weeks we will visit the country and meet with both representatives of the administration and congressmen. We are trying to convey our position and the importance of supporting bothUkraine and Belarus. We believe that free Belarus is besides in the interests of the USA. Of course, the global policy of the United States is presently changing, and the subject of democracy is most likely not crucial for the United States. But it is our occupation to convey that democracy, safety and prosperity are interrelated concepts," she added.
Cichanouska believes Trump wants to end the war, but stresses the importance of the US taking a firm stand towards Putin and Lukashenko.
“I think they can do this, especially if they keep a strong transatlantic alliance. Belarusians and Ukrainians want this more than anything else. But 1 must realize that for Putin and Lukashenko this war is simply a condition for their endurance and will not compromise voluntarily.
It is crucial for us that the United States take a firm stance towards Putin and Lukashenko and do not let these dictators to control themselves. It's naive to think that anything can be negotiated with Putin. And I think the Trump administration is already drawing any conclusions. I hope they are aware of this in Washington, D.C., too, and will talk harder," she said.
According to information from the advisor to the leader of the Democratic forces of Franak Wiaczorka, the gathering with Swiatlana Cichanouska will take place on May 7 at the Think Tank Hudson Institute in Washington DC.
