Belarus signed a contract for the production, assembly and sale of buses in Zimbabwe, as well as a contract for the transportation of MAZ buses to that country. This was the consequence of the gathering of the Joint Permanent Cooperation Committee of Belarus and Zimbabwe, co-chaired by the Belarusian abroad Minister Maxim Ryjankou and the Zimbabwe Minister of abroad Affairs Amon Murwira.
With the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Wiktar Karankiewicz as “an honorary guest”, the parties summarized the results of the implementation of the existing agreements and outlined fresh areas of partnership.
The gathering resulted in the signing of a joint communication and protocol on the extension of cooperation in agriculture, industry, education, healthcare, disaster management and mining. An agreement was reached on the improvement of a fresh “comprehensive roadmap for cooperation” for the period 2026-2030, which will cover both current and fresh bilateral projects.
Zimbabwe expressed its gratitude to Lukashenko for humanitarian aid in the fight against the effects of the drought caused by El Niño.
Ryjankou said there are "practically unlimited opportunities" for cooperation between 2 countries based on the support of Mnangagwa and Lukashenko.
During the inspection of the Belarusian agricultural machinery delivered under the current 3rd phase of the Zimbabwean Mechanization Agriculture Programme, the Belarusian delegation took note of 189 tractors and 7 combine harvesters donated to Zimbabwe. Another 30 combine harvesters and 30 grain wagons are expected to arrive from Belarus by the end of April 2025, reported the Belarusian Ministry of abroad Affairs.
In a discussion with the Minister of State for Land, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water Resources and agrarian improvement Zimbabwe, Obert Jiri discussed the extension of the supply range, as well as the forthcoming exchange between the 2 agriculture ministries. During talks with Zimbabwe's abroad Minister, Amon Murwir, both sides stressed the request to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including in the fight against sanctions, as well as common support for initiatives on global platforms. Murvira described Belarus as a “sociusznik” and “strategic partner”.
Both parties agreed that it is crucial to step up joint efforts to agree fresh projects before the president of Zimbabwe visits Belarus.
“The visit of the head of Belarusian diplomacy in Zimbabwe confirmed common interest in the improvement of a multifaceted partnership. The agreements reached will be the basis for concrete projects in the framework of cooperation between 2 countries," said the Belarusian Ministry of abroad Affairs.
