On Sunday 29 September, horsemen will appear at the Shrine in Kahlenberg, Vienna in a full Husar gutter. It is an initiative of the Foundation work of Poland and the Podlaskie Husar's Chorąg, which will be a celebration of the Patriotic Festival "Viktoria Viennaska".
The celebrations will begin with Mass in St. Joseph's Church in Kahlenberg, after which you will be able to admire a rich programme with the participation of the Podlaskie Husar's Chorąg.
The mission of the Foundation work of Poland and Podlaska Chorągwi Husarska is to constantly remind about Viennese Victoria both in Poland and Europe, as well as in the Podlaskie Voivodeship itself, from where 341 years ago The husaria set off, exhibited by Stefan Branicki. Therefore, the husaria on horses again, after 8 years, arrives at the holy place of Poles – to the National Sanctuary in Kahlenberg!
The many years of efforts of Dariusz Wasilewski, the Rotmaster of Podlaskie Chorągwi Husarski, brought effect and it became possible to organize an event commemorating the invaluable contribution of the Polish weapon in Vienna Victoria. After an eight-year break, the cavalry will stand on Kahlenberg again.
Moreover, these efforts made it possible for her to remember Vienna Victoria and the glorious function of the Polish Hussar, despite the organizational difficulties, to break into public opinion and awareness of the contemporary inhabitants of Vienna. This became real due to the consequences of pursuing the goal.
Husaria Podlaska, it can be said that she specialized in promoting Vienna Victoria. This was thanks to the commitment she showed by organising the 330th and 333rd anniversary of the Vienna Relief. We remind that the first effort to celebrate it with the participation of a horse took place in 2013, erstwhile Dariusz Wasilewski came up with a brave thought to drive from Kraków in armor with rolling stock, a rally moving along the march of King Jan III Sobieski's army. Despite a very modest budget, Husars from the Podlaska Husatar Ensign set off on the occasion of the 330th anniversary of the large battle, a horse rally that was to praise King John III Sobieski. The start took place in Krakow and reached the borders of the First Republic – Bytom. In 2015, 4 Hussars this time were officially invited to the anniversary of Vienna Victoria to Vienna. Unfortunately, they went without horses, although on Kahlenberg they told about a beautiful and unique past associated with the battle. They promised each another that next time Polish knights who saved Europe would celebrate their steeds.
Perseverance paid off, due to the fact that a large and spectacular Hussar show was held in 2016.
The effect was amazing. The united Hussars, for the first time in centuries, gave a show of Polish strength in Vienna, and the Husaria could again full show its beauty and legendary momentum.
It is besides crucial to emphasise another very affirmative aspect of all these efforts and actions – namely this bottom-up initiative, which came out of Hussar environments, has met with large social support from organisations in Vienna. The Polish Forum, headed by Mrs Teresa Kopieć, with the engagement of Colonel Adam Stępnia in Vienna, enabled the Polish Hussars to show at the prestigious Austrian Military Museum.
The co-organizer of the event was the “Polonia Forum” Community of Polish organizations in Austria and the Polish Embassy in Vienna, and our presence was supported by the Marshal's Office of Podlaskie Voivodeship.
In 2024 Podlaska Chorągiew Husarska is again in Vienna as a celebration The Patriotic Festival “Viktoria Vienna – Hussaria Victory” in Kahlenberg – in Vienna.
