Since July 2022, the air defence over Poland and NATO's east flank has been reinforced by American fifth-generation F-22A Raptor fighters operating from the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Łask. The machines are capable of operating at supersonic cruising velocity (supercruise) and are built to the requirements of reduced stealth detection technology. They are part of NATO's Air Shielding mission, launched to bolster the air defences of NATO's east flank states following Russian aggression into Ukraine.
