GOA- The Civilian Aviation Ministry inaugurated a new Air India Express (IX) operated Boeing 737 flight service connecting Kolkata to Goa via Hindon, Delhi on Saturday (March 1, 2025).
Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu presided over the launch ceremony at Hindon, highlighting the successful collaboration between civilian and military aviation authorities.

Air India Express Hindon Flight
Hindon Airport, situated in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, serves as a strategic transportation hub due to its location, dual-use capabilities, and military infrastructure. The facility’s capacity to accommodate various aircraft types positions it as a vital national asset. This new flight route will significantly reduce air traffic congestion in the National Capital Region.
The service operates under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) initiative, demonstrating the Indian Air Force’s dual commitment to military operations and civilian air travel by improving accessibility to diverse destinations across the country.
The Indian Air Force continues to support nation-building efforts beyond its primary defense responsibilities through active participation in programs like UDAN, which aims to enhance regional air connectivity throughout India.
Earlier this week, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu also launched the UDAN Yatri Cafe at Chennai Airport, further expanding the initiative’s reach.

UDAN Yatri Cafe Expansion
The UDAN Yatri Cafe concept has expanded to Chennai Airport following its initial success at Kolkata Airport, where the first cafe opened in December last year. Strong passenger demand has driven the nationwide expansion of this initiative, with Delhi Airport slated to receive this facility soon.
DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar confirmed during a Wednesday media interaction that preparations are underway to establish the Udaan Yatri Cafe at Delhi airport to enhance passenger experience.
The newly inaugurated Chennai Airport location strategically occupies the pre-check area of the T1 domestic terminal, providing all connecting passengers access to affordable refreshments. The menu includes water bottles for Rs 10, tea for Rs 10, coffee for Rs 20, samosas for Rs 20, and a sweet of the day for Rs 20.
During the press conference, Union Civil Aviation Minister Naidu emphasized, “The UDAN Yatri Cafe is a testament to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji’s vision of inclusive flying, making air travel more convenient, accessible and affordable for all.” He noted the strong traveler demand that followed the Kolkata Airport launch, adding, “After the eastern gateway of Kolkata, we are proud to bring the UDAN Yatri Cafe to the southern gateway, Chennai Airport, which is one of the oldest and now the fifth busiest airport in the country, handling over 22 million passengers annually.”
The Minister highlighted additional passenger convenience initiatives at Chennai Airport, including the Digi Yatra and Trusted Traveller Programme E-gates, which provide seamless digital travel experiences. He also announced ongoing expansion work at Terminal 2 to enhance international operations.
