According to the First Information Report (FIR), Sadiq could not provide a valid license for the bullets. He claimed the ammunition was purchased under his father’s licensed arms and inadvertently left in his laptop bag.

Sadiq, who works as a traffic assistant for Qatar Airways in Doha, was traveling on flight QR621 to Doha (DOH) at the time of the incident.

Two separate incidents at Indian airports revealed passengers carrying live ammunition without proper authorization, prompting legal investigations and security interventions.

At Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, a 43-year-old passenger named Amrish Bishnoi was detained on June 27, 2023, after security personnel discovered six live cartridges in his luggage during screening for a Delhi to Dubai flight.

Despite possessing an all-India pistol license from the Uttar Pradesh Government, Bishnoi could not provide valid documentation for carrying live ammunition on an aircraft. Authorities registered a case at the IGI Airport Police Station following the incident.

Hyderabad Incident

In a parallel case at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), security personnel intercepted passenger Akram Sarfaraz from East Champaran, Bihar, during a screening process on November 12, 2024. A CISF sub-inspector monitoring the X-ray machine detected a suspicious image in Sarfaraz’s hand baggage, which subsequent physical examination revealed to be a 7.65 calibre live cartridge.

Adhering to Bureau of Civil Aviation Security regulations, CISF personnel transferred Sarfaraz and the ammunition to RGIA police for further investigation. The police registered a case under section 25(1B)(a) of the Arms Act.

Sarfaraz claimed he was unaware of the ammunition, stating he was carrying his brother-in-law’s bag. While not arrested, he was served a notice and produced his brother-in-law’s arms license.

American Man Arrested at Mumbai

On August 9, 2023, a 25-year-old American citizen, Marcelin Djouhou Kamdoum, was arrested at Mumbai airport for carrying live cartridges in his checked-in luggage during a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata.

Security staff discovered three live cartridges hidden beneath the sole of his shoes during a routine luggage screening.

Airport security personnel detected suspicious objects during the baggage screening process, revealing three cartridges—two 9mm and one 10mm in diameter. Kamdoum explained to police that he did not recall placing the cartridges in his luggage, attributing the oversight to his routine practice of carrying gun accessories in the United States, where gun laws are more liberal.

The Sahar police station registered a case against Kamdoum, who reportedly engages in shooting sports as a hobby. His unintentional transportation of live ammunition highlights the critical importance of thorough pre-flight security screenings and passenger awareness of international travel regulations regarding firearms and ammunition.
