SYDNEY- The Australian national carrier Qantas Airways (QF) has initiated a comprehensive uniform redesign, marking its first major wardrobe transformation in over a decade.
This strategic move aligns with the airline’s fleet modernization program and the groundbreaking Project Sunrise initiative.
Qantas New Uniform
The airline’s leadership has launched a nationwide search for an Australian designer to reimagine the iconic Qantas uniform, recognizing its significance as a vital brand element. The selection process involves engaging multiple Australian designers to evaluate the project requirements.
Qantas has implemented a collaborative approach by conducting extensive surveys among its 17,500 uniformed employees. Their input will directly influence the development of the new uniform design, ensuring it authentically represents the airline’s future direction.
The uniform’s storied history includes contributions from renowned designers such as Peter Morrissey, Yves Saint Laurent, George Gross and Harry Who, and Emilio Pucci. Each design iteration has captured pivotal moments throughout Qantas’s 105-year legacy.
The upcoming uniform will become the eleventh edition in the airline’s history. Qantas plans to unveil the selected designer in the near future, with the new uniform scheduled to debut in 2027. This transformation coincides with substantial fleet investments, including orders for more than 100 new aircraft across the Qantas Group over the next decade, alongside significant upgrades to the existing fleet.
CEO Remarks
Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson announces the uniform redesign as a cornerstone of the airline’s transformation strategy. The initiative seeks to redefine the brand’s visual identity during a period of significant expansion.
Hudson emphasizes the uniform’s role as a global symbol of Qantas’s identity, stating its importance amid the airline’s expanding international and domestic network. The redesign coincides with the company’s fleet modernization program and its pioneering efforts in global aviation.

Hudson expresses gratitude to Martin Grant, who designed the current uniform in 2013, acknowledging the positive reception his design has received from Qantas staff over the past decade. The current uniform has served as a distinctive representation of the Qantas brand throughout its use.
