On Tuesday, October 20, the Lviv Circuit Council adopted a resolution on the next year's celebrations of the year of the Ukrainian Insurgency Army (UPA), its chief leader, Roman Szuchewycz (OUN-B), and poet and archaeologist, as well as activist of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, Oleh Oljer (OUN-M). Information about the dedication of the 2027 criminal organization and its leader was given on the authoritative website of the self-government.

The initiative to establish the year 2027 was presented in July. According to Ukrainian authorities, next year's celebrations are to celebrate 120. the anniversary of the birth of Shuchewycz and Oljesz, as well as the 85th anniversary of the establishment of the Ukrainian Insurgency Army. Historical, scientific, cultural and educational events are to be held in connection with the “year of UPA” in the region.

“This is our story, our heroes, and we should decently celebrate their memory,” said Swiatosław Szermeta, president of the Culture Committee of the Lviv Circuit Council.

Ukrainian local government officials called the UPA and Szuchewycz 2027, liable for the slaughter in Volyn.

The biggest controversy is the commemoration of Roman Szuchewych and the Ukrainian Insurgency Army. Shuchewycz was – alongside Stepan Bandera – 1 of the key leaders of the Ukrainian nationalist movement, and since November 1943 served as the chief commander of UPA. It is the UPA to be divided with the banner wing of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists that is liable for mass murders on Polish and in smaller quantities besides on judaic and even Czech and Ukrainian inhabitants of east Małopolska and Volyn.

The 3rd figure indicated in the resolution is Oleh Olszech, Ukrainian poet, archaeologist and nationalist activist associated with the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. He was a typical of the OUN-M faction associated with Andrij Melnyk, separate from the bander faction. In Ukraine, Olschod is commemorated as a associate in the independency movement and a typical of Ukrainian culture.
