Today in Lublin there was a protest of the mine miners “Bogdanek” who are afraid to destruct jobs due to a simplification in coal mining. According to estimates, 3,000 people participated. Manifesting miners offered a petition to Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the hands of the state of Lublin. "Deleting the state-of-the-art coal mine in Europe is more than a crime," said Janusz Kowalski, MP of PiS, on platform X.

The workers of “Bogdanka met on the Lithuanian plan in Lublin and marched before the seat of the Lublin Voivodeship. They said they wanted to find out what the future of their workplace would be.

What is it?

Before the protest began, miners took part in a press conference, during which they explained the motivation behind their actions.

The head of the “Transformation” trade union in “Bogdance” Jarosław Germany stated that the miners request talks on the transformation associated with the Green Deal, and meet only with arrogance and disregard.

The conditions for transformation (Green Deal – ed.) were discussions with stakeholders. On our demands for specified talks, arrangements that safeguard the interests of the region and workers, we met with arrogance. the disregard and pride of the government. We feel like the elite won't talk to the plebs.

“He assessed.

We don't have adequate promises. They're just words. We want concrete agreements.

— supplemented Germany.

The head of NSZZ "Solidarity" in Bogdanka Mariusz Romańczuk stressed in turn that the plan to extract 2 million tonnes of coal by 2035 would mean the decommissioning of the plant. He besides pointed to bitter examples of another workplaces.

The plant operates in a powerful area of 8 counties. We have a promotion (...), which says the possible of closing the mine is the migration of 32,000 people from this area. They're practically young people who leave here due to the fact that there won't be a job. That's why we protest, we want to do it sooner, we don't wait for it to happen. We have examples: FŁT Kraśnik, Azoty in Puławy. We don't want to go the same way.

“ He explained.

Artur Brzozowski of the trade union “Cadra” referred to the activity of the Enea group.

In fresh months we have been dealing with the activation of the Enea Capital Group, to which Bogdanka belongs. In our view, Bogdanka, as a stock company, should be treated legally as regards the Commercial Code, KNF

“He said.

Our task is to usage stock possession to accomplish our own goals. The cost of Bogdanka and our region

“Brzozowski added.

Jacek Świrszcz, president of the Mining Union, argued that Bogdanka is simply a patron of culture, athletics and 1 of the companies that “keep this full region alive”.

Fair Transformation’

Since 2009, LW Bogdanka has been a stock company, while the Enea Capital Group has about 65% of the company's capital. The Enea Group is composed of Enea Wycień and Enea Polaniec, which are the main recipients of Bogdanka coal. The preliminary financial results of the mine published in January this year show that the production of commercial coal in 2024 amounted to 7.9 million tonnes and sales to 8.1 million tonnes.

If the government does not warrant fair competition in the LW Bogdanka coal market, pending the implementation of the fair transformation plan, it will be covered by State guarantees to keep the production and sales at the same level, which is economically sound, social interest and energy safety of the country. The Treasury will so take the majority share of LW Bogdanka

“ The unionists have stated in their postulates.

Trade union demands relate mainly to the issue of energy transition to be the consequence of the implementation of the EU Green Deal rules.

A fair transition can only be implemented on the basis of a plan – a social pact adopted and agreed by stakeholders. This is straight due to the assumptions of the declaration of European Green Deal signed by the Polish authorities

“ Unionists pointed out.

Ensuring power

During the gathering with the miners of Lublin, Krzysztof Komorski calmed the demonstrators and assured that there were no plans to liquidate “Bogdanka”.

There was no, there is no, and there will be no plans to liquidate Bogdanka. No jobs will be abolished

“He said.

The Komorskie Voivodeship assured that the union petition to Prime Minister Donald Tusk would be handed to him immediately.

We stay at your disposal. I'll perceive to your demands as long as it takes. It's my dog's duty.

— he said.

Krzysztof Komorski stressed that he wanted the workplace to be well placed in the fresh economical reality.

It is crucial that this energy transformation in dialog allows to make specified a business line so that LW Bogdanka can supply more jobs in the future. This is what we are truly fighting for for Łęczna, communes and neighbouring districts. We want to guarantee that plants specified as LW Bogdanka or Puławy Azota find themselves in a fresh reality. We can't let them fall out of our hands, due to the fact that they're centers that radiate business across the region.

“the state of Lublin said.

Most likely after the holiday, Komorski said, a gathering will be organised to gather key investments and demands related to the functioning of LW Bogdanka.

The function of the Treasury

In a letter to the head of government, miners request a "fair transformation", which can be implemented "on the basis of a plan only" agreed by the parties. The government would warrant the implementation of specified a plan and warrant the resources needed to implement it.

Traders anticipate it to warrant "fair competition in the coal market". In the absence of specified a guarantee, they want the mine to be covered by ‘state guarantees to keep the production and sales at the same level’.

The Treasury will so take over the majority share of LW ‘Bogdanka’ S.A.

“ They wrote.

The miners besides request that the Mining Act be amended and included in the Bogdanka mine.

Previously, the Minister of manufacture Marzena Czarnecki assured miners that LW “Bogdanka” would not be closed, although a period ago, Deputy Minister of State Assets Robert Kropiwnicki revealed during a gathering with miners that the Treasury was not planning to take over the mine.

Comments

During the protest of miners from “Bogdanka” there were many politicians and parliamentarians who besides posted social media entries, reporting the situation of miners in Lublin.

Multi-thousand demonstration in Lublin in defence of the coal mine “Bogdanka”. Removing the most modern coal mine in Europe is more than a crime. I'm defending LW Bogdanka!

said Janusz Kowalski.

There is no agreement to destruct Polish industry! present we defend Bogdanka due to the fact that we do not want Poland to be a museum of the world. We want inexpensive energy, strong manufacture and decent jobs. We do not agree to return to the 1990s, a garbage transformation and the creation of fresh islands of poorness and unemployment in towns with fallen establishments. We'll keep Tusk and Green Rafał's gang

“ Michael Moskal wrote.

I took part in the protest of the mine miners of Bogdanka today. Miners fight for their own that can lose in the face of changes that are presently taking place, changes caused by Green Deal and greenism. Bogdanka is 1 of the largest employers in the region, the collapse of the mine will consequence in the collapse of the city of Łęczna, the collapse of many companies whose clients are miners, will make it essential to go after work, break up families. There's no consent. Today, with the possible of carriers, I have enriched the context with the harmfulness of this policy

“ Rafal Mekler noted.
