On Tuesday, May 13th, under the Chancellery of the Prime Minister again. This time, people with disabilities, their families and activists demanded the urgent adoption of the individual Assistance Act. Among the slogans there was a controversial thought – a higher excise work on beer, which would fund support for the disabled.
“Personal assistance from now on!” demanded protesters
Several 100 people gathered under the NRPM to express their opposition to delays in the work on the individual Assistance Act. The task is intended to enable people with disabilities to live independently, in accordance with the UN Convention. The demonstrators demanded that the task be referred immediately to the Sejm, fearing that prolonged negotiations with the Ministry of Finance would lead to the case being frozen.
– My dream planet is simply a free marketplace world, but erstwhile everything is taxed, there are no exceptions. This is what happens now with beer, which can not only be advertised, but which besides has definitely lower excise duties than another alcohols. Our banner clearly indicates: 60 cents more excise work on a can or a bottle of beer and the full subject of disabled assistants we have solved – says Susan, 19-year-old economics student.
The hoard threatens the coalition: “I will blow up the government if you do not fulfill your promises”
Among the politicians who appeared at the protest, he was Simon Holovnia, leader of Poland 2050 and Marshal of the Sejm. He threatened publically that "destroy the coalition"If the rulers ignore the demands of people with disabilities.
– This is not a question of political games, it is simply a question of fundamental human rights. We cannot let another government to promise and neglect to keep its word – emphasized the protesters.
Will a beer taxation solve the problem?
Among the banners were the following slogans:
- ‘Right to support. Unforgettable’,
- “President, where are your promises?”,
- ‘Assistance from now on’.
However, the most controversial request was Increase the excise work on beer by 60 cents per bottle. This appropriation is intended to cover the financing of assistants of persons with disabilities.
– Beer has a lower excise work than another alcohols and is widely advertised. Why not usage that money for real help? – the protesters ask.
What's next on the bill?
Protesters say They'll be back under KPRMUntil their voice is heard. They fear that in the face of the presidential campaign, the task will be postponed and yet abandoned.
