Protection of cultural objects during the armed conflict - AMW conference

2024 marks the anniversary of the adoption of the major global treaties on the protection of cultural heritage during the war, i.e. the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Goods during the 1954 Armed Conflict and the Second Protocol to it of 1999. On this occasion, the Naval Academy organises a technological conference on CHALLENGES FOR PROTECTION OF CULTURAL DISTRIBUTION AT THE TIME OF THE CONFLICT OF THE BROWN - THE 70th HAZINE CONVENTION", which will be held on 19-20 September at the Auditorium of the AMW Main Library.

Partners of the event include the Institute of Heritage Security, PKN ICOMOS, National Heritage Institute, National Fire Department, National Museum Institute, State Archives, global Cultural Center, ICOM POLSKA, Polish Blue Shield Committee, global Cultural Heritage Training and investigation Centre in Threat, Association of Monument Conservationists, Association of Polish Museumists, Faculty of Land Engineering and Environment of Gdańsk University of Technology and Association of Polish Archives.

The main nonsubjective of the conference is to in-depth analysis of the Treaty obligations on the protection of cultural goods during the armed conflict, their explanation in the context of a change in the calculation of the combats and urban theatre of activities and the resulting fresh threats and challenges for those liable for the safety of monuments and collections. This scope of analyses will be broad – from analysis of formal legal texts, by assessing the level of preparation of persons liable for the safety of historical objects and collections to the performance of statutory defence tasks, the importance of protecting cultural goods in the activities of the armed forces to the implications of the conflict in Ukraine and the opportunities associated with the usage of fresh technologies in the area of cultural heritage protection.

RECLAMA

Given the multisectoral challenges in protecting cultural goods during the armed conflict, the conference will be interdisciplinary. Speakers will address, among others, issues concerning the protection of cultural goods in the activities of the armed forces, global work for violation of the state's Treaty obligations in the field of the protection of cultural heritage, preparation of cultural institutions on time W, Ukrainian experience in the protection of cultural heritage, the engineering dimension of the protection of cultural heritage during and after the war, and the protection of intangible cultural heritage. respective English-language speeches will take place as part of a distant connection to academic centres in Newcastle (UK), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Krems (Austria) and Lviv University of Technology (Ukraine).

The conference received backing from the state budget as part of the MEiN “Excellent discipline II” competition.
The honorary patronage of the conference was the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Polish UNESCO Committee, the National Museum Institute, the Pomeranian Voivodeship and representatives of local authorities.
