Today, we can hear opinions that voting is simply a moral work for Catholics. But in the 1946 message, the bishops state something more fundamental, namely that "every Catholic has the work to know the political life of his country and to take a keen interest in it, due to the fact that only then will he be able to work effectively to fulfill the state's tasks."
