The president blocked 46 judges. The Justice Ministry responds

The decision of president Karol Nawrocki to refuse to appoint 46 judges for higher positions in the judiciary triggered a violent reaction of the Ministry of Justice. The Ministry informed about the receipt of a letter from the Chancellery of the president of Poland, in which there was no formal justification for this firm decision. This is another act in the ongoing dispute over the form of the Polish judiciary and the scope of presidential prerogatives, which may have long-term effects on the functioning of courts.
