President Karol Nawrocki calls the situation in the Polish wellness care "tragic" and... intends to propose a solution. A spokesperson for the head of state Rafał Leśkiewicz announced that as early as Tuesday, a draft amendment of the Medical Fund Act was sent to the talker of the Sejm, which is an additional origin of backing for wellness care. It is estimated that this year the gap in the NFZ will be PLN 14 billion, and next year more than PLN 20 billion! The situation is commented by the presidential minister Karol Rabenda.
During the Monday press conference, president Rafał Leśkiewicz announced the presentation of the bill on the Medical Fund to the talker of the Presidential Sejm on Tuesday.
The situation – described by Nawrocki as “dramatic” – in the wellness service was commented by the Minister at the Chancellery of president Karol Rabenda, who stated that the state, although having immense expenses now, should not save on the wellness of Poles. Hence the proposal of the Presidential Palace to introduce changes to the Medical Fund.
The president wants to redirect a fewer billion from the Medical Fund to the NFZ
"We are after a number of meetings and consultations on these issues and the president would like to propose a solution that will in part resolve this tragic wellness situation. The changes to the Medical Fund Act" explained Rabenda.
As he stated, “because of the inability” of the wellness minister Izabela Leszczyny, who stay in the Medical Fund funds for investments in the oncology area for this year, has not been spent, so the president proposes that they be temporarily transferred to cover the costs of treating patients, and especially children and young people.
“In this situation, it is not possible to solve with 1 move, but all initiatives that improve this tragic situation of Polish patients should be considered and implemented,” says Rabenda.
This year, the state has already added PLN 32 billion to wellness care, and inactive a twelve billion are missing!
As a consequence of the amendment, the NFZ budget would be charged PLN 3.5 billion – this is little than a 4th of the gap that the National wellness Fund will make for this year. This year it will be PLN 14 billion, and next year it will be PLN 23 billion! This year's deficit is counted after grants from the state budget, which in 2025 amounted to a full of PLN 32 billion! Only in October, NFZ received PLN 3.5 billion for settlements with medical institutions and hospitals.
