During the Presidential Festival held on Sunday in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace, president Karol Nawrocki powerfully sided with Polish farmers and announced a strong opposition to the EU solutions that were not beneficial to them.

The European Union's trade agreement with the Mercosur countries has been peculiarly emotional.

“When I hear that we are to sign a European Union agreement with the Mercosur countries, I say no, and I do not agree, and I will devote all my efforts to guarantee that this does not happen,” said president Nawrocki, stressing that the subject was the subject of his talks with European leaders, including the president and Prime Minister of Italy and the leaders of the Baltic States (...) "And I am about to inform the French president that the president of Poland does not agree to the signing of a European Union agreement with the Mercosur countries and I call for a resolution of this situation".

The president recalled that despite the strategical "solidarity with Ukraine", Poland cannot accept unfair competition from the East.

"We must not accept unfair competition from the east, which does not service our agriculture," he pointed out, pointing out the hard situation farmers face.

In his opinion, the last months for the Polish village resembled “seven Egyptian plagues”.

"Polish village in the Presidential Palace is always listened to and solving problems of the Polish village is 1 of my most crucial tasks. In the last fewer months, erstwhile I looked at the lives of Polish farmers, at times I felt that it looked like 7 Egyptian plagues. On the 1 hand, problems with what unfortunately comes from our Western European partners. On the another hand, unequal competition that comes from the east."

He stressed that Poland wants to be part of the European Union, but not at all costs and not at the expense of its own agriculture.

"We want to be in the European Union and we will do everything to benefit from and cooperate with the European Union on a partnership basis, but my occupation as president of Poland is to say that we do not agree on the Green Deal that destroys Polish agriculture".

Despite reservations against the Mercosur agreement, the president does not reject the thought of global cooperation.

"We request cooperation with the countries of South America which are so close to our values... but erstwhile I hear that we are to sign a European Union agreement with the Mercosur countries, I say no. I do not agree to this, and I will devote all my efforts to not making this happen."

At the end of the speech, Nawrocka referred to the relation with Polish farmers before his election.

“During the election run you shouted ‘a village with Charles’, and now president Karol Nawrocki shouts ‘Karol with a Polish village’.”
