President Karol Nawrocki critically assessed the law to block illegal content on the Internet, recognising it as an excessive extension of EU regulations and a possible regulation of freedom of expression.

The amendment of the Act, adopted last week by the Sejm, provides that UKE and KRRiT will be able to remove content related to 27 categories of prohibited acts, adapting Polish law to the EU Digital Services Act.

“This is the desire to introduce deep overregulation and to take the level of many of you who share their opinions under the name and surname (...)” – we read in the message of the president quoted by PAP, which he shared with participants of the legislature of Young Conservatives in Lublin.

The president pointed out that Poles are attached to freedom, and the provisions of the Act carry serious risks: the problem is, among others, the arbitrary way of determining the applicable “standard” – it is not known who would decide “to push the button, which is correct and what is not” – said Karol Nawrocki. At the same time, the president assessed that part of the catalogue of 27 prohibited acts serving as a basis for removing content from virtual space is justified" e.g. in terms of the usage of image and trafficking in human goods.
