President Karol Nawrocki visits Hungary

President Karol Nawrocki met with Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Polish-Hungarian relationship Day in Budapest. The Hungarian Prime Minister welcomed the guest with the words: “Poles and Hungarians, 2 good friends. Welcome to Budapest, president of Karol Nawrocki". This is the first gathering of both politicians in private since Navrock's office of President.

The Polish-Hungarian relationship Day has been celebrated since 2007 at the initiative of then presidents Lech Kaczyński and Laszlo Solyoma. On the occasion of the festival, the Chain Bridge in Budapest was lit with national colours of Poland and Hungary.

During his visit, president Nawrocki laid a wreath at the memorial of General Joseph Bem and met with his Hungarian counterpart Tamas Sulyok at Sandora Palace, the seat of the Hungarian President. A fewer hours earlier a gathering was held in Przemysl, which was expected to emphasize the historical ties of both nations.

In his speeches, Nawrocka emphasized the importance of long-term Polish-Hungarian relationship and its foundations in a common history. "My mission and the president's mission is to guarantee that the relationship of our nations is not dependent on momentary political tensions. This bond was built for centuries and will endure all difficulties," he said.

The president of Poland besides thanked Hungarian interlocutors for their fruitful talks, stressing the importance of common historical experiences and solidarity between the peoples. The gathering was an chance for dialog on both the past and contemporary challenges in the region of Central and east Europe.
