The Management Board of the Polish Olympic Committee announced the composition of the representation at the XXV Winter Olympics. The arenas in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo will feature 59 White-Red, including 21 representatives of the Polish Army. Soldiers will compete in 7 disciplines: biathlons, ski runs, bobsleighs, fast skating, short track and mountaineering.

Games in Italy will last from 6 to 22 February. In Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo athletes will compete for 116 sets of medals in 16 sports disciplines. For the first time, they will fight for places on the podium in mountaineering – sports that combines elements of climbing, skiing and downhill.
Representatives of Poland will compete in 12 of these disciplines: biathlons, ski runs, fast skating, short track, mountaineering, figure skating, tobossing, bobsleighs, alpine skiing, ski jumping, Norwegian combination and snowboarding. Our squad at the XXV Winter Olympics included 32 players and 28 players. The function of the Ensigns during the beginning ceremony was entrusted to ski jumper Kamil Stoch and panchnyst Natalia Czerwonce.
Among our 21 Olympians, almost a third, are soldiers of the Polish Army. Most of them represent Central Military Sports Team, a bobsleist st. width. Claudia Adamek serves in the 12th Mechanized Brigade. For the 4th time in the games 2 athletes will compete: a snowboarder S.A. Aleksandra Król-Walas and a ski runner st. width. Maciej Staręga.
Four years ago in Beijing, Poland represented 57 players. 13 soldiers went to China and represented Poland in 4 sports: biathlons, ski runs, fast skating and snowboarding. 8 years ago, there were 3 soldiers in South Korean Pjongczang in the Polish Olympic team, in 2014 in Sochi – five, in 2010 in Vancouver – three, and in 2006 in Turin – only one.
Poland's representation as 1 of the fewer competed in all winter Olympics. In 24 starts, the White-Reds won 23 medals: 7 gold and silver and 9 bronze. With this acquis Poland in the medal classification of all time ranks 19th in the rate of existing countries. He leads Norway with 405 medals, including 148 zlotys.
At the last 5 winter games Polish representatives won 19 medals. The most successful was a start in Sochi in 2014. Kamil Stoch won 2 gold medals there, 1 by Zbigniew Brodka and Justyna Kowalczyk. In addition to 4 gold discs, Poles besides won silver and bronze. Unfortunately, from the last games in Beijing, Polish representatives returned with only 1 disc – the bronze was won by Dawid Kubacki in ski jumps in the competition at the average jump.
Athletes who received passes for the XXV Winter Olympics, before taking off in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo are inactive waiting to make an Olympic pledge. any of them will do it on 30 January at the PKOl headquarters, while they have remained in Italy.
