President Andrzej Duda, in an interview for tv Republic, asked about projects aimed at softening abortion laws, stated that subjects embedded in social emotions are a comfortable and excellent platform for campaigning and substitute themes in public debate.
- The themes that are based on social emotions are very comfortable, substitute, large for the campaign. They were taken out like a proverbial bunny from a hat, in order to usage them," said president Andrzej Duda in an interview given to tv Republika on his journey to fresh York City.
President Andrzej Duda believes that most likely no of the draft abortion laws that have now been sent to the emergency committee will be directed to his desk for signature.
- I'm sorry. I uncertainty they'll be voted in the Sejm. I do not think there is simply a majority that will vote on these laws," the president pointed out.
Currently, 4 projects to mitigate abortion rules in Poland are considered in the Sejm Emergency Commission. The Commission has 27 members. All the clubs reported only women. Among them are 11 MPs PiS, 9 from KO, 2 from Poland 2050-TD, PSL-TD and Left and 1 from the Confederation.
- I'm sorry. It is simply a plan to distract from the fact that alternatively of dealing with the management and conduct of Polish affairs, building as the strongest Polish economy, implementing crucial improvement projects specified as CPK and the improvement of atomic energy (...) they deal with subjects that rise emotions, nerves on the political phase and in social space to distract attention," he said during the interview.
The Sejm decided to mention 4 proposals on changes to abortion law to further consideration in the extraordinary committee. Among them were 2 projects submitted by Lewica: the first task removes penalties for abortion with the consent of a female (full decriminalization of abortion until the 12th week of pregnancy, full depenalization of eugenic abortion until childbirth). The second provides for the anticipation of abortions up to week 12 of pregnancy, in the case of slight genetic defects up to week 24, and in the case of letal defects up to period 9 of pregnancy. The 3rd Way task restores the legal position prior to the 2020 TK judgement on abortion and proposes a referendum on the liberalisation of abortion law. It imposes an work to take into account the "mental wellness state". The Citizen Coalition task legalizes abortion until Week 12 without giving a reason. In the case of slight genetic defects up to week 24 and in the case of letal defects up to 9 months of pregnancy and in the case of a legitimate suspicion of a prohibited act, up to week 18.
President Andrzej Duda makes it clear that he will not sign the law mitigating the rules on abortion, which means that these projects may stay on the committee until the fresh president is elected. It is the right time to take action that will bring society closer to what abortion truly is and what consequences it can have. It is crucial to supply reliable education and information to aid realize both medical and ethical aspects of abortion.
