“Selected representatives should be chosen to advance the wellbeing of citizens”

In a provoking interview, the Grand Master of the oldest Portuguese Masonic Obedition, the Grande Oriente Lusitano /GOL, expressed concern over the deterioration of the right to housing and healthcare in the country, criticizing the deficiency of engagement of elected representatives in solving these key social problems.

“We are experiencing an global but besides national crisis”, said Fernando Cabecinha in an interview with Lusa.

“Today we request to improve the right to housing”, as well as “the right to quality education, the right to wellness care, and the right to a fair justice strategy which are the fundamental rights of each individual”.

His summary of the current national (and possibly international) position quo is that “all pillars of democracy are in crisis” – and the reason is that the very concept of public service “seems to be lost”.

“The elected representatives are elected to advance the wellbeing of citizens (...) I think it is far from today's reality," he said.
