Since September 19, 2023, The Ministry of Climate and Environment provided Polish consumers with an chance to reduce electricity costs by introducing an initiative. This is simply a large opportunity, due to the fact that the deadline for utilizing this program is 12 December. Anyone who meets certain conditions can benefit from the offered discount.
According to the fresh regulations, consumers can receive 125 PLN discount on the bill for current, gathering at least 1 of the following conditions:
- Switching to e-invoice: Electronic form of invoices not only helps to defend the environment, but besides reduces administrative costs.
- Verification of individual data: Sometimes outdated information can prevent relief. Updating data can bring additional financial benefits.
- Electronic contact consent: Energy companies supply discounts to those who agree to electronic communications.
- Rights Statement: Persons with disabilities, large household card holders and farmers have a chance to get relief.

In the past 2022, the average gross electricity price for households with yearly consumption of 2 MWh varied between PLN 0.77 per kWh. Unfortunately, in 2023, despite the introduction of stabilisation measures, including price freeze, this rate increased to PLN 0.9 per kWh. This unexpected increase in energy prices, although softened by government intervention, continued to pose a financial challenge for many farms.
In consequence to this rising price trend, the government has initiated the alleged "solidarity shield". This is simply a task to minimise the negative impact of rising energy prices on consumers. In the coming 2024, the programme is planned to continue. The maximum electricity price was set at PLN 693 per MWh. Interestingly, this regulation not only covers those who are delicate to price increases, but besides to local governments and the SME sector.
In addition, the solidarity shield provides for the application of the same price cap in household settlements that exceed certain consumption limits. This mechanics aims not only to defend against price increases but besides to encourage more efficient usage of energy.
Forecasts for 2024 indicate a further increase in electricity costs. The expected price will be about PLN 1,51 per kWh, which can importantly burden home budgets. This projected increase underlines the importance of both government intervention in price formation and the request to advance energy savings among consumers.
