In 2023 we gained a fresh partner city – the Ukrainian Konotop. The decision to cooperate was then made by city councillors. Stargard has now again visited Konotopu's mer Artem Semenikhin, who has signed a deal with Deputy president Eve Owl. This will guarantee that we proceed to be effective in helping people affected by the war. This agreement will besides let for meetings, exchange of good practices and joint actions in the fields of culture, athletics and education.
Since 2023, concrete support has been provided to our partner city. Ukrainians gained the essential equipment – power generators, saws, circular saws, grinders, water pumps, car lifts and garbage truck. We were besides visited by young people from Konotop, who last year spent winter holidays in Stargard. Urban companies were besides active in the aid.
Our partner city is located close the border with Russia. In 2022, Konotop was under Russian business for over a month. To this day, residents feel the effects of these events. They are constantly struggling, among others, with power outages and the request to rebuild many public buildings and buildings. In September last year, Russian drones again attacked the Conotop, causing further demolition and wounding respective people.
Stargard has 5 partner cities. These are German: Stralsund and Elmshorn and Saldus (Latvia), Wijchen (Netherlands) and Konotop (Ukraine).
