Prof. Simon Stockley of Cambridge University praised Katowice in an interview with "Financial Times". According to a British scholar, the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship achieved a "great transformational success" from the fossil fuels manufacture to the IT and banking industry.

"Financial Times" in an article published on Tuesday stated that Katowice have undergone a transformation "from the declining fossil fuel industry" and "try to transform into the centre of banking, IT and gaming companies". The British diary compared the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship to, among others, Aberdeen in Scotland or Gelsenkirchen Germany, where economical and social change has besides taken place.
