As of January 2025, over 3.5 1000 Polish companies will be obliged to print sustainable improvement reports, which will include the calculation of the carbon footprint. This work is due to the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) to Polish law and aims to strengthen climate policy and advance transparency in greenhouse gas emissions.

Who will the fresh work touch?

As of January 2025, reports will should be submitted by companies employing more than 500 employees. These reports will include data for 2024. In subsequent years, this work will extend to average and tiny stock companies. Importantly, even companies that are not straight covered by the Directive may be required to supply data on their emissions if they are suppliers of large regulated entities.

"Sustainable improvement becomes a standard on global markets, e.g. appears in tender criteria", recalls Rzeczpospolita. This approach can affect the competitiveness of companies in the market, peculiarly in relations with global business partners.

What's a carbon footprint?

The carbon footprint is an indicator of the full greenhouse gas emissions over the full life cycle of a company or product. It is calculated in the equivalent of tons of carbon dioxide (tCO2e), taking into account global standards specified as ISO 14064. Emissions are divided into 3 ranges:

  1. Scope 1 – Direct emissions, e.g. from company vehicles or production plants.
  2. Scope 2 – indirect energy emissions, e.g. electricity consumption or cooling.
  3. Scope 3 – another indirect emissions, specified as those resulting from supply chain activities.

The work to study carbon footprints means the request to cooperate with suppliers of goods and services to get emanation data, even in the case of companies which are not formally subject to the CSRD. In the long run, this may be another reason to bear prices, as EU dazes who are chaired by the “carica” von der Leyen may impose a carbon footprint tax. Unfortunately, the Tusk government, which is simply a faithful servant of the “caryca”, will not defend Poles from the anticipation of introducing specified a charge.

Controversy around fresh regulations

Although the fresh government is intended to contribute to combating climate change, many companies find it besides burdensome. The coal footprint process requires complex analyses and crucial financial resources, which can be a challenge especially for smaller businesses. "Many entrepreneurs see it as an absurd work imposed by bureaucrats," says Rzeczpospolita.

Summary

The fresh rules on reporting the ESG and counting the carbon footprint are a step towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, which will consequence in European slavery. The worst part is that this is all happening with the consent of the full European society.
