Polish government wants to limit children's access to social media

The Polish government is preparing regulations to radically change the way the children usage the Internet. Minister of Education Barbara Nowacka announced the introduction of regulations prohibiting the usage of social media for children under the age of 15.

The task foresees that platforms will gotta effectively verify the age of users and block access to minors, and if they do not do so, they will face advanced financial penalties.

The fresh rules are to be presented by the KO, and their entry into force is planned in early 2027. The Minister argues that the proposal is simply a consequence to the worsening intellectual wellness of children and young people and to the increasing influence of social media on the improvement of the youngest. It besides points to the ineffectiveness of self-regulation of platforms so far.

The task may make a conflict with the largest technology companies that had previously opposed akin regulations in another countries, but the government underlines that its aim is to increase the safety of children on the Internet.

Recently, “The Court of Justice” (read: > Here.) informed the Australian authorities of the most stringent rules in the planet in this area. As of December 10, 2025, people under the age of 16 cannot presume or hold accounts on major social platforms specified as Instagram, Facebook, TickTok, YouTube, Snapchat, Threads, Twitch, Reddit and X. For failing to effectively verify the age, technology companies are facing penalties of up to $49.5 million, and the work for law enforcement lies with them, not children or their guardians.

The aim of Australian regulations is to defend intellectual wellness and reduce, among others, the force to compare with others and the vulnerability to violent and sexual content. Legislators mention investigation combining the intensive usage of social media with the wellness problems of young people.

This law, first of its kind in the world, has become the subject of a broad debate — both supporters and critics stress the social and method consequences of enforcing the ban.

The combination of national plans and global precedents shows that discussing the function of the state in protecting minors in cyberspace is becoming 1 of the key themes of digital policy.
